Bouldering in Vegas, Stays in Vegas.

Classic view from the Buttermilks toward Mt Tom
Christine and David's multi-state pebble crushing adventures over the past 6 months.

In the last few months, Christine and I have had the chance to take a couple of short trips, and to work on some creative projects. In December/ January, David's brother and his girlfriend came for a two-week visit from Sweden. We split our time between Bishop and Las Vegas, bouldering the whole time.

Finding Motivation in Weakness and Inspiration in Success

Since David and I met more than four years ago in Spain, our life has been a blur of extended climbing trips in the US and Europe, interrupted by bouts of seasonal work—in large part because our international relationship required frequent border crossings such that neither of us overstayed our visas in the other’s respective home continents.

Summer Freediving

WATCH IN HD

Here is a recent video of me Freediving in Sand Hollow and Lake Powell.  Both lakes are located in Southern Utah and typically are not this clear.  By the end of the season they start to settle out and become quite clear, which makes for fun diving.  This has been a great way for me to stay in shape mentally during the off season. Trying to relax as much as possible to conserve oxygen and conquer new fears.

Work Trip: Sprint-hiking in Southern Utah

I work full-time as a freelance writer/ author, and I recently landed another book contract on hiking in Utah. Though I've done many, many of Utah's hikes, I needed to take a research trip to gather GPS data and photos. So David and I packed the car (again) and headed back south from Montana. (Unfortunately, a lot of this - 1700 miles, in fact - was backtracking of recently driven roads... but I unfortunately found out about this project just a tad late.)

Over five days of hiking, we covered 16 trails all over southern Utah - and because of the associated amount of driving, we ended up running a lot of this.

We had set out to do 20 hikes on this trip, but I ended up coming down with some pretty undeniable pain in my right foot. And lest I wind up with stress fractures, we decided to play it safe and pull the plug a little early. After all, summer is right around the corner!
