I love Winter and spending time in the mountains! Whether it is early morning laps at the resort or backcountry touring with friends. It is great to be outside.
Time to break out the puffy coat winter is in full effect. The epic indian summer and its golden trees have dropped their leaves and the alpine is coated with snow. This past fall has been one of the most beautiful in recent memory. As December settles in Mother Nature is off to a good start and hopefully will bless us with a deep winter.
The
first Sun Valley Mid-Winter Photo Challenge went down a couple days ago
and was a super fun event. 5 photographer/athlete teams had 12 hours to
shoot and produce a 3 minute slideshow using only that day's images.
Thanks Jon Mancuso for crushing it all day. Be sure to check out Jon's sweet site http://www.jonmancuso.com/
On August 15th, 2013 I was proud to make the first stand up paddle
crossing of Western Lake Erie. I paddled 35 miles in 12 hours. My
route was from Bay Point, OH to Point Pelee,Canada. I was blessed with
great weather with temps in the low 70′s and a warm lake temp of 70
degrees. Another blessing was the great boat support crew of my
girlfiend Jaime, Captain Stacy Acker and her friend Cherl.
I was proud to do this paddle for St. Baldrick’s Foundation. Thanks
to everyone for the generous support. So far I have raised over $2400.
Feel free to give a few bucks at

Ohhh spring in the Mountains! Love the standard spring dumps and shenanigans at the resort! Enjoy these Idaho backcountry images from Craig Wolfrom Photography http://craigwolfrom.com/blog/
The future of Telemark skiing is looking pretty good! Enjoy this stylee edit from Jeremy Lato featuring the Mountain Niceness tele posse! It is always a blast skiing Ellie Singer age 9 and her brother Kapp 13. These kids don’t want coco they want to tele-shred!
This winter is off to a banger start at Sun Valley. We received over 60 inches in the last week to get the season rolling! Town is electric and everybody is smiling and stoked!
I was lucky to get my Alyeska Jacket the day before the storm. This jacket is bad ass! I was
totally dry while it was pouring at lower elevation and dumping up
high. The Nordwand Pants performed equally well! Thanks Mammut for keeping me warm and dry!
Enjoy this action from Sun Valley Resort from Monday.
Seems like each year the best days come in spring! Here in central Idaho we always get pounded with snow in March/April. Enjoy this edit from skiing at Sun Valley yesterday. With over 30 inches of fresh how could you go wrong.
As always I stayed warm and dry in Mammut Gore Tex gear! My Alagna jacket is my favorite for the resort. I am rocking the Nordwand pant which is my go to for stormy weather.
Life is good! After the last storm I got the chance to go out and shoot with my friend Karl Weatherly at Sun Valley. It is always a good time when we get out and ski! These shots were taken 3 days after the storm. The sun came out and there was lots of freshies and face shots all day long. There is nothing like making sty-lee telemark turns in the pow!!! I love it!
I just had my best week of the season so far at Grand Targhee http://www.grandtarghee.com/ . This is my third season riding for the Grand Targhee Team. The Ghee is special place where it dumps snow ALL the time. The vibe is mellow and the people are friendly! They have over 110 inch base now which means everythng is skiing great. I was filming this week withOnTheSnow.comcrew. Should be blower over head footy! I’ll post it when I get it!
Welcome to the White Room!
I am stoked to be featured again in ads for Grand Targhee!
Wow...what a winter so far! Yes "winter two thousand heaven" has blessed the west with loads of snow! Here is some follow cam from fellow K2 rider Zach Crist at Sun Valley last week. Sun Valley has been enjoying a great early season with La Nina!
As always I stayed warm and dry all day long with my Alagna jacket and pants! The Nirvana pack has been my go to pack at the resort for the last 3 season. It's the perfect size for everything you need to go bell to bell!
Ullr is smiling on us and blessed us with some great early season snow! Here is some from footy from Sun Valley. I am rocking my Mammut ski uni from 3 years ago....the Nirvana Jacket...still bomber gear!
It feel great to back on my skis and see all my winter friends. Winter is a really special time of year. Get out and celebrate the snow!
I am proud to be on the cover of Horizon Airlines Magazine. The photo was taken by Karl Weatherly on the run Execution at Sun Valley. Can't wait for more days like these!
A crazy thing happens each fall as the leaves tweak their colors and the peaks recieve the first dusting. My mind shifts to the upcoming season of pow shredding. Boxes start arriving from Mammut, K2, Scarpa, and Smith to fuel the fire even more. Nights are filled with quality time enjoying Greg Stump and Dick Barrymore classic ski flicks. Its true I am adddicted-a true powder and tele ski junkie. The only thing I can do to get my mind off this winter obsession is spend lots of time rock climbing at the City of Rocks, Idaho.
There are so many things I love about climbing .Climbing requires your mind to be very present and to focus. Climbing gives us an opportunity to get out to beautiful spots and challenge ourselves. They're is also the extra fun that goes along with the climbing experience-camping,beers by the fire, hot springs, alpine starts, and great time with friends.
It is always a treat to ski each spring with my friends/guides from Sun Valley Trekking. What makes it so special is being with people that share my passion for skiing, powder and time in the mountains. Like our Pioneer Yurt trip last week we were blessed with another 2 feet of fresh in the Sawtooths. Things were not stable up high which forced us to lower angle pow skiing. Great turns and face shots all day long!
Gonna be a great spring! Enjoy the mountain niceness!
Waking up this morning I was greeted with the crisp crisp mountain air. My hands and feet were freezing as I rode my cruiser bike to coffee shop. The sunrises are looking a bit different....and yes the days are getting shorter. It is true I am crazed by the glorious snow and winter! I do enjoy our beautiful Idaho summers filled with amazing mt biking, climbing and hiking but they are all preparation.....for the epic winter ahead of us!
Wow.... it time to switch gears from tele-ski mode to climbing and biking adventures! But, first I'd like share a video from Hayburn Couloir in the Sawtooth Mountains in Idaho with the K2 team. The route was accessed from the Bench Lakes Hut which is one of Sun Valley Trekkingwww.svtrek.com/ 5 huts or yurts! I was blessed to spend half the month at these huts in beautiful Idaho! More Mountain Niceness to come...............Enjoy!
